Physical Distancing At Airports Become Almost “Impossible”04/05/2020
When you are considering to travel immediately after the pandemic crisis. You will need to know that maintaining physical distancing at airports will become almost impossible.
It is highly likely that more people will travel from June onwards. Unless, the government imposes any further restrictions on international travel.
However, as there will be more people travel at the same time. Maintaining physical distancing rules will become very difficult at airports.
John Holland-Kaye ceo of Heathrow Airport states, “Social distancing does not work in any form of public transport, let alone aviation,”
As a result, passenger’s safety will be in a dire condition. Unless, there are no safety steps are taken.
However, the chief executive also states that passengers will have to follow safety procedures once an airport will welcome new passengers.
For an instance, passengers will go thorough heath-screening and need to wear masks.
Although, the GMB union urges, that the airport must introduce social-distancing rules to protect staffs and passengers.
Mr Holland-Kaye said in an interview with Press Association: “It’s just physically impossible to socially distance with any volume of passengers in an airport.”
He also further added, “The constraint is not about how many people you can fit on a plane, it will be how many people you can get through an airport safely.”
On the other hand, The GMB calls for urgent action to protect Heathrow airport workers after an over-crowding incident this week. As, two flights arrived from the same country at the same time.
There are were 500 passengers waiting to collect their bags from just one conveyor belt.
Trevlyn McLeod, GMB London region organiser states, “No social-distancing was enforced in what was a very crowded area,”
It is very likely that different airlines to resume their services within a short period.
