  1. wear loose, comfortable clothes
  2. do calf exercises at least every half hour – raise your heels, keeping your toes on the floor, then bring them down 10 times. Then raise and lower your toes 10 times
  3. walk around whenever you can
  4. drink plenty of water
  5. do not drink alcohol or take sleeping pills

Alongside, there are particular groups of people are considered most vulnerable for the disease:

  1. histories of DVT or pulmonary embolism
  2. ever had cancer
  3. had a stroke in life
  4. problems with heart disease
  5. have an inherited tendency to get blood clots
  6. have had recent surgery – especially in the tummy, pelvic region or legs
  7. are very overweight
  8. are pregnant or you’ve had a baby in the previous 6 weeks
  9. take oestrogen-containing medicines such as HRT (hormone replacement therapy) or the combined contraceptive pill

Also, wearing compression stockings or flight socks during journeys of 3 hours or more can help prevent DVT.
